Care and tips on acne

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions during pregnancy, affecting more than half of pregnant women. It usually appears as blackheads, whiteheads and pimples on the face, upper arms, chest and back.

During pregnancy, your body produces more hormones than usual, which can increase acne breakouts. Additionally, your skin may be more sensitive than usual, making the acne worse.

Natural Solutions

Depending on your skin type, several natural treatment options are available.

  1. Oil-based solutions are popular for treating mild acne. Natural oils such as jojoba, coconut and tea tree work best for people with dry or sensitive skin, as they help soothe inflammation and hydrate dry patches.

  2. On the other hand, those with oily skin may benefit from witch hazel or apple cider vinegar, which can help reduce excess sebum and keep oiliness in check.

  3. If your acne is more severe, a combination approach may be better.

It's essential to seek medical advice if your acne during pregnancy is severe or persists for over three months. Your doctor may suggest a topical treatment such as a retinoid or antibiotics. It's important to note that some medications used to treat acne may not be suitable during pregnancy, so always check with your doctor before starting any new treatment, medicine or home remedies for your skin.
