So, here's everything you need to know about your baby's heartbeat.
Did you know?
A baby’s heart starts to beat around 22 to 24 days (i.e six weeks) after conception! However, your doctor will only be able to hear the heartbeat after 20 weeks.
What is the fetal heart rate during pregnancy?
In a healthy pregnancy, the baby's heart rate will usually fall between 120 and 160 beats per minute. Initially, as the heart begins to beat your baby’s heartbeat will be somewhere around 85 to 100 beats per minute. Towards the ninth week, it will increase even more and be it’s highest around 170 beats. And post 13 weeks, it will settle to be normal (within range) around 120 to 160 beats per minute.
Interestingly, the baby’s heartbeat changes with the movement, mood and food of the mother! And as the baby grows, the heartbeat changes in-sync with their own movement. This range could be 5 to 20 beats per minute, up-and-down.
MYTH: All babies have a constant heart rate.
FACT: Fetal heart rate changes depending on the baby's activity and position.
