What is this?
Panty liners are similar to sanitary pads but are thinner, smaller, and less absorbent. While sanitary pads are used during menstrual periods, panty liners are designed for non-period days to manage vaginal discharge and spotting. Although vaginal discharge is natural and essential for the vagina's self-cleaning process, excessive discharge can stain your underwear and make you feel uncomfortable. Using sanitary napkins on these days isn't ideal, making panty liners a convenient alternative. They help prevent spotting and keep you feeling clean and fresh.
What is it made of?
Panty liners are made of the same material as sanitary pads only thinner, smaller, and less absorbent.
How to use it?
Using panty liners is very similar to using a sanitary napkin. Simply remove the protective strip to expose the adhesive on the bottom and stick the panty liner firmly. Change your panty liner if it starts to feel wet and in general every 3- 5 hours.
Pros and Cons :
Pros
It keeps you fresh and dry by absorbing your vaginal discharge.
It is a savior for unexpected periods.
It is great to use it at the start or the end of your period.
It prevents your pants from getting wet when you can't control the pee.
It helps keep you fresh during your ovulation period.
Cons
Bacteria use the wetness and moisture of wet pads/pantyliners and make them breeding grounds.
The chemicals and gels used in these sanitary products can irritate vaginal mucosa and genital skin leading to rashes and fungal infections.
Use of panty liners can increase the risk of abnormal vaginal discharge.
As most panty liners are not sufficient to soak up the discharge, users might end up using more than required and end up wasting a lot of these products. This is not a very sustainable idea both ecologically as well as economically.
Single use panty liners are not very environmentally friendly. They are made of non-biodegradable materials that add to the landfill and also contribute to soil pollution since the chemicals in them seep into the land, reducing its quality & fertility.
Changing your single-use panty liners frequently is an expensive affair. You cannot forgo the process either and it just ends up burning a hole in your pocket!
